Have you ever encountered a Food Pusher? These are people who show their love by shoveling food down your throat.

They want you to have a bite of everything they order. Or they want you to finish your plate. Or they say “you gotta try this.”

They might even say “that’s all your ordering?”

Notice all these phrases are pressuring your to EAT MORE! And if you are trying to lose fat and be in a calorie deficit (fancy term for eating less than your body needs) then this can work against you.

Take a step back and ask yourself….

  • Are you sacrificing your body and mind to be POLITE!?

I hereby authorize you to make YOUR progress on YOUR terms.

You do not need to give in to food pushers. Here’s a few helpful tips when you encounter these kind of folks…

  • Food pushers need to be put in their place. When you eat their food they are signaled they are doing something good and will do it AGAIN. It reinforces the behavior.
  • Many people who are trying to lose weight expect food pushers to read their mind and somehow know you’re trying to watch your calories or food consumption.
  • If you say “no thanks” they will get over it.
  • You telling yourself YES to success is NOT a burden on anyone else.
  • Passive lameness fuels the food pushing.
  • Bottom Line: Either they ARE supporting you or they are NOT.

For many people, this topic is uncomfortable because it requires conflict resolution. They want something and you want something different. Conflict and tension exists.

But typically, only ONE of the two people is aware.

That’s why it’s such a great idea to share your fitness goals publicly. Check-in to the gym when you show up for a session. Post your healthy meals and explain why it would be helpful if others support you on your diet.

Lastly, I want to point out the difference between a Food Pusher and your Coach telling you to eat more calories. We often prescribe this to our clients when we find out they are UNDER-EATING.

That red line is usually 1,200-1,500 calories based on many factors. When we find out someone is eating WAY TOO LITTLE, we kinda need to become Food Pushers and tell you why it’s a good thing and how your metabolism will respond positively to it.

But if you are in a good place with your calorie consumption and someone is food pushing, it can push you into too high of calories and work against you and your fat-loss goals.

There is nuance to every single person which is why we love building a CUSTOM nutrition plan within our Transformation Program. We find out the exact amount of food you need to eat to hit your goals.

If you need help with that, just let us know and we can schedule you for a Transformation Kick Off (TKO) with Sal.

Hope this was helpful and comment below with any clarifying questions you might have!!
